National Estuary Program
A program established under the Clean Water Act Amendments of 1987 to develop and implement conservation and management plans for protecting estuaries and restoring and maintaining their chemical, physical, and biological integrity, as well as controlling point and nonpoint pollution sources.
NATIONAL ESTUARY PROGRAM (NEP)
The Federal Water Quality Act of 1987 established the National Estuary Program (NEP). The Act authorizes the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to convene management conferences to develop Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plans (CCMP) for estuaries of national significance that are threatened by pollution, development, or overuse.
