Nashik

Nashik or Nasik is a city in India's Maharashtra state. Nashik is in the northwest of Maharashtra, 180 km from Mumbai (Bombay) and 220 km from Pune. Nashik is the administrative headquarters of Nashik District and Nashik Division. The "Wine Capital of India", or the "Grape City", as it is popularly known, is located in the Western Ghats, on the western edge of the Deccan peninsula on the banks of the Godavari River. The city is known for its picturesque surroundings and pleasant climate. The Godavari River flows through Nashik from its source, which lies to the southwest of the city, in Trimbakeshwar. It is a rapidly developing city with a population close to 1.4 million (2006 est).

Nashik oder Nasik (marathi: नाशिक, Nāśik; hindi: नासिक, Nāsik) ist eine indische Stadt nordöstlich von Mumbai im Bundesstaat Maharashtra. Sie liegt an dem heiligen Fluss Godavari. Alle 12 Jahre wird in Nashik Kumbh Mela gefeiert. Nashik hat 1.076.967 Einwohner.Am 27. August 2003 kam es beim rituellen Bad von Millionen von Hindus am Ufer des heiligen Flusses Godavari in Nashik zu einer Massenpanik, 43 Menschen wurden zu Tode getrampelt.

Nashik, ook wel Nasik is een grote stad in de Indiase deelstaat Maharashtra op ongeveer 180 kilometer afstad van Bombay. Door de stad loopt de rivier Godavari. De stad is historisch gezien vooral belangrijk als religieus centrum, de stad is een van de heiligste plaatsen voor hindoes. Nashik is gelegen in het gelijknamige district Nashik en er wonen 1.076.967 mensen (2001).
