Nancy

Nancy (IPA pronunciation ; archaic ; Luxembourgish: Nanzeg) is a city and commune in the Lorraine région of northeastern France.The city is the préfecture (capital) of the Meurthe-et-Moselle département. The metropolitan area (aire urbaine) of Nancy had a population of 410,509 inhabitants at the 1999 census, 103,602 of whom lived in the city of Nancy proper (105,100 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2004 estimates).

Nancy est une ville française, préfecture du département de la Meurthe-et-Moselle (54). Ses habitants sont appelés Nancéiens ; on trouve aussi la variante Nancéens. Nancy était la capitale du duché de Lorraine indépendant, jusqu'à son rattachement à la France en 1766.

Nancy an der Meurthe (deutsch, ungebräuchlich: Nanzig) ist eine Stadt in Lothringen, Frankreich. Nancy ist die Hauptstadt (Präfektur) des Départements Meurthe-et-Moselle und hatte 2004 geschätzte 105.100 Einwohner. Die Bezeichnung Nanzig wurde gelegentlich (z. B. im Brockhaus von 1888) als deutsches Exonym verwendet, vor allem, als im Wilhelminischen Kaiserreich (1871–1918) ein Teil Lothringens (Elsass-Lothringen) zum Deutschen Reich gehörte. Seit langem ist diese Bezeichnung (Nanzég) nur noch in Luxemburg gebräuchlich.

Nancy (niem. Nanzig),– miasto we wschodniej Francji, nad rzeką Meurthe (dopływ Mozeli) i Kanałem Marna-Ren, ośrodek administracyjny regionu Lotaryngia i departamentu Meurthe-et-Moselle; 104 600 mieszkańców (2004), zespół miejski 331 363 (1999). Do 1766 r. księciem Lotaryngii był Stanisław Leszczyński – król Polski, który po wygnaniu z kraju osiadł razem ze swoją żoną Katarzyną Opalińską, na stałe w Nancy.
