Namutoni is a village and a restcamp in Northern
Namibia. It is located in
Etosha National Park at the eastern edge of the
Etosha pan. It is the site of a fort that was originally a German police post and later as a place to hold English prisoners in
World War I. The original fort was destroyed shortly after its construction in
1904 and rebuilt a year or two later. The current fort was restored to its present state in
1957. The fort now largely serves as a lodge for visitors to Etosha National Park. There are stairs to access the top of the fort which offers a commanding view of the area. Namutoni is one of the three restcamps located within Etosha National Park.
