Nigeria, officially named the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a country in West Africa and the most populous country in Africa. Nigeria shares land borders with the Republic of Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the north. Its coast lies on the Gulf of Guinea, part of the Atlantic Ocean, in the south. Since 1991, its capital has been the centrally-located city of Abuja; previously, the Nigerian government was headquartered in the coastal city, Lagos.

Le Nigeria (ou Nigéria), situé dans le golfe de Guinée, est de loin le pays le plus peuplé d'Afrique avec plus de 140 millions d'habitants. Malgré une production de pétrole importante, le Nigéria demeure un pays relativement pauvre, en raison notamment d'une très forte corruption. La valeur de son PIB total le place à la troisième position en Afrique, derrière l'Afrique du Sud et l'Algérie. Malgré la tenue d'élections au suffrage universel, la démocratie n'est pas établie, le dernier scrutin ayant donné lieu à des fraudes massives selon les observateurs internationaux. Depuis 1991, la capitale du Nigeria est la ville nouvelle d'Abuja. Ses habitants sont les Nigérians (ceux du Niger sont les Nigériens).

Nigeria [] (amtlich auf Englisch: Federal Republic of Nigeria []) ist ein Bundesstaat in Westafrika, der an Benin, Niger, Tschad und Kamerun grenzt. Es ist mit Abstand das bevölkerungsreichste Land Afrikas und versucht sich nach Jahren der Militärdiktatur an seiner Demokratisierung und wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung. Nigeria konnte bisher seine reichen Erdölvorkommen nicht zur erfolgreichen Armutsbekämpfung nutzen. Korruption, Gewalt und ethnische Konflikte zwischen dem muslimischen Norden und dem christlich-animistischen Süden sind die Haupthemmnisse, um Nigerias Bevölkerung ein besseres Leben zu ermöglichen.
