Stimmung (Musik)
Der Ausdruck Stimmung oder gestimmt wird in der Musik in mehreren verschiedenen Bedeutungen benutzt, wie in folgenden Beispielsätzen:
- „Die Stimmung des Instruments ist 442 Hertz.“ – Hier ist die absolute Tonhöhe des Stimmtons gemeint.
- „Das Instrument ist in B gestimmt.“ – Dieses kann sowohl auf die Grundtonleiter eines Instruments hinweisen als auch darauf, ob für dieses Instrument transponierende Notation üblich ist (siehe Transponierendes Musikinstrument).
- „Die Stimmung des Instruments ist gleichschwebend temperiert.“ – Hier geht es um die exakten relativen Tonhöhenschritte innerhalb eines Tonsystems.

Gammes et tempéraments
En musique, un tempérament est un système d'accord destiné à un instrument à sons fixes, construit par compromis dans l'intention d'atténuer certains inconvénients propres aux systèmes d'intonation pure. Les écarts introduits par les tempéraments ne sont directement perceptibles que par une oreille entraînée, mais ont un effet global sur la perception du morceau : les instruments accordés sur des tempéraments inégaux restituent la mélodie avec une atmosphère plus dure ou mélancolique, colorée par la tonalité dans laquelle ils jouent.

Stemmen (muziek)
Onder stemmen verstaat men in de muziek het op de gewenste toonhoogte brengen van de door een muziekinstrument voort te brengen tonen.
Informeel kun je van een muziekinstrument zeggen dat het is gestemd als de te stemmen tonen onderling niet meer wringen, dissoneren, of vals klinken, en dus goed bij elkaar passen. Twee muziekinstrumenten zijn geschikt om samen te spelen, wanneer de instrumenten op dezelfde toonhoogte gestemd worden. Als verschillende muziekinstrumenten samen spelen terwijl ze niet dezelfde stemming hebben kan dit vals klinken. Daarom stemt men ze, zodat de noten gelijk klinken.

Afinação
Na música, embora muitas vezes confundido com calibragem, a afinação corresponde ao processo de produzir um som equivalente a outro (embora provavelmente de timbre diferente), por comparação. É, assim, classificado qualitativamente como bom ou mau (boa afinação/má afinação).
A comparação pode ser entre uníssonos ou com intervalos vários. Próxima à afinação entre uníssonos está a utilização de um intervalo de oitava (por ser a mesma nota, embora numa escala diferente).
Um facto curioso que pode ocorrer durante a afinação (dependendo do instrumento), é a ressonância. Por exemplo, é frequente, durante a afinação de uma guitarra, uma corda reagir ao som de outra corda, sinal de que a afinação está bem feita.
