Music recording sales certification

Music recording sales certification is a system of certifying that a music recording has sold a certain number of copies. Almost all countries follow variations of the RIAA certification categories, which are named after the precious materials gold, platinum and diamond (silver is also used in some countries). The number of sales required for these awards varies depending on the population of the territory in which the album is released. Normally they are awarded only to albums released at least nationally and are awarded individually for each country in which the album is sold. Additionally, different sales levels may exist for different music media, such as albums, singles, or videos.

Un disque d'or est une récompense remise à un artiste pour souligner qu'un album musical s'est vendu à un certain nombre d'exemplaires. Ce seuil est établi de façon arbitraire. Bien que la remise d'un disque d'or soit le plus fréquemment soulignée par les journaux, l'industrie du disque remet d'autres récompenses : disque d'argent, disque de platine, etc.

Die Goldene Schallplatte soll dabei als Auszeichnung für eine „gleichermaßen künstlerisch wie wirtschaftlich erfolgreiche Produktion“ stehen.

Złota płyta jest powszechnie stosowaną na świecie nazwą wyróżnienia przyznawanego wydawnictwom muzycznym. Warunkiem uzyskania przez płytę statusu złotej jest osiągnięcie przez nią określonego progu sprzedaży.Pierwsze złote płyty przyznane zostały przez Recording Industry Association of America w roku 1958. Początkowo nagradzano wydawnictwa, dla których wartość wszystkich sprzedanych egzemplarzy przekroczyła milion dolarów. W roku 1975 wprowadzono dodatkowo wymóg sprzedania określonej liczby (500 tysięcy) egzemplarzy. Tak określony próg jest obecnie stosowany przez wszystkie organizacje przyznające tego typu wyróżnienia.
