Music recording sales certification is a system of certifying that a music recording has shipped or sold a certain number of copies, where the threshold quantity varies by type (such as: album, single, music video) and by nation or territory (See also: List of music recording certifications).

Eine Goldene Schallplatte ist eine Auszeichnung die in den USA seit 1958 von der Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) und in anderen Ländern seit den 1970er Jahren von der International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) an Musiker und Komponisten vergeben wird. Voraussetzung für die Verleihung einer Goldenen Schallplatte ist der Verkauf einer Mindestanzahl an Ton- oder Bildtonträgern im Inland. Die Goldene Schallplatte soll dabei als Auszeichnung für eine „gleichermaßen künstlerisch wie wirtschaftlich erfolgreiche Produktion“ stehen.

Un disque d'or est une récompense remise à un artiste pour souligner qu'un album musical s'est vendu à un certain nombre d'exemplaires. Ce seuil est établi de façon arbitraire. Bien que la remise d'un disque d'or soit le plus fréquemment soulignée par les journaux, l'industrie du disque remet d'autres récompenses : disque d'argent, disque de platine, etc.

Guldskiva är en benämning på en skiva som har uppnått en bestämd försäljningsnivå. Nivån varierar mellan olika skivtyper, genrer och länder och fastställs i Europa av IFPI. I USA sköts certifieringen av RIAA.

Złota płyta jest powszechnie stosowaną na świecie nazwą wyróżnienia przyznawanego wydawnictwom muzycznym. Warunkiem uzyskania przez płytę statusu złotej jest osiągnięcie przez nią określonego progu sprzedaży.
