The muscat family of
grapes of the species
Vitis vinifera is widely grown for
wine,
raisins and
table grapes. They range in color from white to almost black, but almost always have a pronounced sweet floral aroma. Muscat grapes are grown around the world in
Bulgaria,
Romania,
Italy,
Israel,
France,
Portugal,
Greece,
Spain,
Australia,
California,
Hungary,
Canada,
Turkey and other places. The breadth and number of varieties of muscat suggest that it is very old, perhaps the oldest domesticated grape variety. There are theories that most families within the Vitis vinifera grape family are descended from the Muscat family.

Rebsorte die weltweit, vor allem in den Mittelmeerländern verbreitet ist. In Spanien und Portugal ist Moscatel eine gebräuchliche Bezeichnung für die verschiedenen Spielarten des
Muskatellers. Sie verlangt sehr warme Standorte und ist für alle Böden geeignet, außer für bindige Kalkböden.

espumantes são produzidos a partir da uva Moscatel, tendo sempre a característica adocicada. Em geral, acompanham muito bem sobremesas e, quando gelados, são refrescantes e também como aperitivo.A uva Moscatel é originária do sul da Itália, onde são produzidos seus principais vinhos. Destacam-se também os vinhos Moscatel de Portugal, na região de
Setúbal e Douro (
Favaios) e os espumantes Moscatel produzidos no Brasil.
