Mouvement National Congolais

The Mouvement National Congolais (English: Congolese National Movement, MNC) is a pro-independence nationalist group that emerged in the colonized Belgian Congo. After the country was granted independence by Belgium and held its first parliamentary elections in 1960, chaotic fighting almost immediately broke out, with the MNC being one of the groups vying for power. Internal splits in the MNC occurred between left-leaning (the United States believed him to get aid from the Soviet Union and being its puppet) future Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba and a number of MNC members led by Albert Kalonji. They would break off the form their own more moderate branch of the MNC known as the Mouvement National Congolais-Kalonji, believing Lumbumba and his followers (who as a result of the split became  Mouvement National Congolais-Lumumba) to be too leftist politically.

Le Mouvement national congolais-Lumumba (MNC-L) est un parti politique en République démocratique du Congo. Le parti eu un rôle important à la fin des années 1950 et dans les années 1960 quand il était mené par Patrice Lumumba, le premier Premier ministre de la République démocratique du Congo, appelée République du Congo à l'époque. Le parti émergea d'une session du Mouvement national congolais en deux, avec le MNC-Kalonji.

De MNC (ofwel Mouvement National Congolais) was één van de drie belangrijkste politieke partijen in Belgisch Congo in de jaren 1950 en zou bijdragen tot de Congolese Dipenda van 30 juni 1960.In tegenstelling tot zijn twee grootste rivalen, de ABAKO en de CONAKAT, was de MNC unitaristisch ingesteld en had ze aanhangers over het ganse land. De MNC werd opgericht en geleid door de charismatische bierverkoper en latere premier, Patrice Lumumba.In 1959 ging de MNC een verkiezingskartel aan met de ABAKO van Joseph Kasavubu en won de eerste democratische verkiezingen. Ondanks het grote aandeel van de MNC in deze campagne werd Joseph Kasavubu voorgedragen als president, terwijl Patrice Lumumba tevredenheid moest nemen met de functie van eerste minister. Deze beslissing werd naar verluidt georchestreerd door de Belgische en Amerikaanse belanghebbers die de pro-Westerse ABAKO boven de pro-communistische MNC verkozen.
