Mount Everest

Mount Everest, also called Chomolungma or Qomolangma or Sagarmatha is the highest mountain on Earth, as measured by the height of its summit above sea level. The mountain, which is part of the Himalaya range in High Asia, is located on the border between Nepal and Tibet, China. As of the end of the 2006 climbing season, there have been 3,050 ascents to the summit, by 2,062 individuals, and 203 people have died on the mountain. There have been more than 630 further ascents in 2007. The conditions on the mountain are so difficult that most of the corpses have been left where they fell; some of them are easily visible from the standard climbing routes.

Le mont Everest est le plus haut sommet du monde, dans la chaîne de l'Himalaya. Il est situé sur la frontière entre le Népal et le Tibet (Chine). En népalais, le sommet est appelé Sagarmatha (सगरमाथा, soit le front du ciel en sanskrit) et en tibétain, Chomolungma, Chomolangma ou Qomolangma (déesse de l'univers).

Der Mount Everest, auch Sagarmatha oder Chomolungma, ist mit 8.848 Metern  über dem Meeresspiegel der höchste Berg der Erde und damit auch einer der Seven Summits. Er befindet sich im Khumbu-Himal in Nepal an der Grenze zu China (Autonomes Gebiet Tibet); der westliche und südöstliche seiner drei Gipfelgrate bilden die Grenze. Auf nepalesischer Seite ist er Teil des Sagarmatha-Nationalparks, der zum UNESCO-Welterbe gehört.

Mount Everest najwyższy szczyt Ziemi (8850 m n.p.m.) w Himalajach Wysokich (Centralnych), na granicy Nepalu i Tybetu. Odkryty, i po raz pierwszy zmierzony w 1852. Zbudowany z granitów, gnejsów oraz z wapieni i łupków. Tworzy potężny masyw podcięty z trzech stron lodowcami (najdłuższe Khumbu i Rongbuk - ok. 17 km). Przez miejscową ludność uważany za siedzibę bogów.

Il Monte Everest ha la più alta vetta della Terra. È situato nella catena dell'Himalaya, al confine tra la Cina  e il Nepal.Il monte è chiamato Chomolangma (madre dell'universo) in tibetano e Qomolangma (珠穆朗瑪峰  pinyin: Zhūmùlǎngmǎ Fēng) in  cinese. Il nome nepalese è Sagaramāthā (सगरमाथा, in  Sanscrito "dio del cielo"), ideato dallo storico nepalese Baburam Acharya e adottato ufficialmente dal governo del Nepal all'inizio degli anni Sessanta. Nel 1852 venne chiamato "Cima XV".
