Types of motors include:Electric motor, a machine that converts electricity into a mechanical motionThermodynamic motor or heat engine, a machine that converts heat into mechanical motionMolecular motors, the essential agents of movement in living organismsPneumatic motor, a machine that converts the energy of compressed air into mechanical motionHydraulic motor, a machine that converts the energy of pressurized liquid flow into mechanical motion.Synthetic molecular motors or nanomotors Any device which converts energy into limited and/or intermittent motion (e.g. pneumatic artificial muscles ) may be called an Actuator instead of a Motor.

Motor
Ein Motor (lat. motor, „Beweger“; []; auch []) ist eine Vorrichtung, die mechanische Arbeit verrichtet, indem sie verschiedene Energieformen, zum Beispiel thermische Energiechemische Energie oder elektrische Energie, umwandelt.In der Regel verfügen Motoren über eine Welle, die sie in Rotation versetzen und durch sie mechanische Vorrichtungen wie Getriebe antreiben. Ausnahmen sind Raketenmotoren und Linearmotoren. Heute sind Verbrennungsmotoren und Elektromotoren von herausragender Bedeutung. Sprachlich ist die Abgrenzung zu Maschine und Antrieb oft nicht klar.

Motore
Un motore è una macchina capace di trasformare una sorgente di energia, che può essere in forma chimica (in presenza di un combustibile), elettrica o termica, in una energia meccanica o lavoro meccanico continui (i dispositivi capaci di questa trasformazione in modo impulsivo e discontinuo sono detti attuatori; muscoli piezoelettrici, elettrovalvole, relais ecc.).
