Monte Rosa

Monte Rosa is a mountain massif located in the Italian regions Piedmont and Aosta Valley and in the canton of Valais (Wallis) of Switzerland. It is in the Pennine Alps, the same mountain range as the Matterhorn. The Dufourspitze is the highest peak of the Monte Rosa massif and at 4,634m is also the highest peak in Switzerland.

Der Monte Rosa ist ein ausgedehntes Gebirgsmassiv in den Walliser Alpen, auf der Grenze zwischen der Schweiz und Italien. Sein höchster Gipfel, die Dufourspitze, ist mit der höchste Punkt der Schweiz und damit des gesamten deutschen Sprachraums. Der Grenzgipfel mit 4618 m (südlich des 4515 m hohen Silbersattels) ist zugleich der höchste Gipfel Italiens. Am  Mont Blanc de Courmayeur, dessen Gipfel in Frankreich liegt, reicht das italienische Staatsgebiet allerdings noch um einige Meter höher hinauf (bis 4750 m).

Mont Rose (fr.), Monte Rosa (wł.) - Najpotężniejszy masyw górski całych Alp. Leży w Alpach Pennińskich, powstały w czasie orogenezy alpejskiej, znajdujący się na wschód od masywu Matterhorn, na granicy szwajcarsko - włoskiej. Najwyższy szczyt to Dufourspitze o wysokości 4634 m n.p.m. Masyw pokryty jest stałym Lodowcem Gorner. Na obszerze masywu funkcjonuje kolej zębata z Zermatt na Gornergrat (3136 m). U podnóża masywu znajduje się schronisko Monte Rosa Hut (2795 m.), stanowiące bazę dla turystów wyruszających na okoliczne szczyty.

Il Monte Rosa è, per estensione e importanza, il secondo gruppo montuoso delle Alpi ed il più alto della Svizzera. Si trova nelle Alpi Pennine e si estende su territorio italiano (nei comuni di Alagna Valsesia, Gressoney-La-Trinité, Gressoney-Saint-Jean, Macugnaga, Ayas-Champoluc) e svizzero (nei comuni di Saas-Almagell e Zermatt).
