Montana is a state in the Pacific Northwest and Great Plains regions of the United States of America. The central and western thirds of the state have numerous mountain ranges (approximately 77 named) of the northern Rocky Mountains; thus the state's name, derived from the Spanish word montaña ("mountain"). The state nickname is the "Treasure State." Other nicknames include "Land of Shining Mountains," "Big Sky Country," and the slogan "the last best place." The state ranks fourth in area, but 44th in population, and therefore has the third lowest population density in the United States. The economy is primarily based on agriculture and significant lumber and mineral extraction.  Tourism is also important to the economy, with millions of visitors a year to Glacier National Park, the Battle of Little Bighorn site, and three of the five entrances to Yellowstone National Park.

Montana [] ist ein Bundesstaat im Nordwesten der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Der Name „Montana“ leitet sich wahrscheinlich von dem spanischen Wort montaña, vielleicht aber auch aus dem lateinischen montanus (beides zu deutsch: „Berg-“, „bergig“, „gebirgig“) her. Mit 380.838 km² ist Montana der viertgrößte Bundesstaat der USA und geringfügig größer als Deutschland, aber mit rund 944.632 Einwohnern (2006) viel dünner besiedelt. Montana zählt zu den so genannten Mountain States, die von den Rocky Mountains durchzogen werden. Die Hauptstadt von Montana ist Helena. Sein Spitzname Treasure State („Staat der Schätze“) begründet sich durch die Vielzahl an Bodenschätzen und natürlichen Ressourcen (Erdöl, Kohle, Kupfer, Silber und Gold).

Montana – stan w zachodniej części Stanów Zjednoczonych, przy granicy z Kanadą. Nazwa prawdopodobnie pochodzi od hiszpańskiego słowa „montaña”, które znaczy „góra”. Chociaż Montana kojarzona jest przede wszystkim z położonymi na jej obszarze górami, około 60% terytorium stanu pokrywa preria, wchodząca w skład Wielkich Równin. Region nazywany jest Stanem Skarbów, Krainą lśniących gór i Krainą wielkiego nieba. Montana jest czwartym co do wielkości stanem USA, co w połączeniu ze stosunkowo małym zaludnieniem plasuje ją wśród regionów o wyjątkowo niskiej gęstości zaludnienia. Gospodarka Montany bazuje na rolnictwie, górnictwie i przemyśle drzewnym. Duże znaczenie ma także rozwinięta turystyka. W Montanie znajduje się Park Narodowy Glacier i duża część Parku Narodowego Yellowstone.

Il Montana è uno stato federato degli Stati Uniti d'America. Il nome Montana deriva probabilmente dalla parola spagnola montaña che significa montagna. Nel Montana si trova la più alta concentrazione di grizzly degli USA, tolta l'Alaska; qui inoltre si trova il fiume più breve del mondo, il Roe. Il Montana fu il primo stato ad inviare una donna come suo rappresentante al Congresso.
