Mongols (Mongolian: ), Mongolchuud) are a Central-East Asian ethnic group that lives mainly in the countries of Mongolia, China, and Russia. Owing to wars and migrations, Mongols are also found in some Central Asian states such as Kazakhstan. In China, ethnic Mongols can be found mainly in the central north region of China such as Inner Mongolia (a smaller number of Mongols can also be found in Xinjiang in northwest China). The Buryat branch of the Mongol ethnic group can be found in the autonomous republic of Buryatia, Russia. Ethnic Mongols are bound together by a common language and culture. They speak languages belonging to the Mongolic languages. The contiguous territories inhabited by ethnic Mongols is also known as Greater Mongolia. There are approximately 10 million ethnic Mongols in total.

Jahrhunderts abstammenden Gruppen. Im weiteren Sinne können auch Völker wie die Dongxiang und andere dazugezählt werden.

Les Mongols sont un peuple nomade qui vivent actuellement en Mongolie, en Russie et en Chine. Les quatre ethnies principales sont les Khalkhas, les Oïrates, les Bouriates et les Kalmouks. Ils sont actuellement environ 10 millions, dont près de 5,8 millions en Chine, et ils parlent différentes langues de la famille altaïque (tchakhars, khalkha, oïrate, kalmouk, bouriate, etc.).

Mongoler är ett folkslag som bor främst i dagens Mongoliet (1,9 miljoner) samt i Inre Mongoliet i Kina (3,5 miljoner). Mindre grupper finns i Xinjiang, Tibet och Manchuriet (alla tre i Kina) samt i området Burjatien runt Bajkalsjön i södra Sibirien (i Ryssland). Mongoler talar i regel mongolspråk. Mongoler delas upp i undergrupper varav khalkha och oirater är de största.
