Moçambique

The Island of Mozambique (Portuguese: Ilha de Moçambique) lies off northern Mozambique, between the Mozambique Channel and Mossuril Bay. It has a population of around 14,000 people.

Mozambique, officially the Republic of Mozambique ( or República de Moçambique, pron. ), is a country in southeastern Africa bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east, Tanzania to the north, Malawi and Zambia to the northwest, Zimbabwe to the west and Swaziland and South Africa to the southwest. It was explored by Vasco da Gama in 1498 and colonized by Portugal in 1505. By 1510, the Portuguese had control of all of the former Arab sultanates on the east African coast. From about 1500, Portuguese trading posts and forts became regular ports of call on the new route to the east.

Mozambique (in het Portugees: Moçambique) is een land in het zuidoosten van Afrika. Het grenst aan Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Zuid-Afrika, Swaziland en de Straat Mozambique (Indische Oceaan), met aan de andere kant het eiland Madagaskar.De kust is 2655 km lang. Dwars door het land stroomt de Zambezirivier vanuit het buurland Zambia naar de oceaan. Mozambique is bijna 20 keer zo groot als Nederland.
