Mixed martial arts

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a combat sport in which a wide variety of fighting techniques are used, including striking and grappling. Modern mixed martial arts tournaments as a popular phenomenon emerged in 1993 with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, based on the concept of pitting different fighting styles against each other in competition with minimal rules in place, in an attempt to determine which system would be more effective in a real, unregulated combat situation. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, mixed martial arts events implemented additional rules for the safety of the athletes and to promote acceptance of the sport, while maintaining as much of the original no-holds-barred concept as possible. Since these changes, the sport has grown rapidly, to the point of setting pay-per-view records.

Le combat libre est un sport de combat complet associant pugilat et lutte au corps à corps, dans lequel les deux combattants peuvent utiliser de nombreuses techniques telles que les coups de pied, de poing, de genou, de coude, des techniques de projections et de soumission (grappling) et certaines percussions au sol (techniques limitées dans certaines fédérations). Les organisations les plus connues de combat libre sont le Pride Fighting Championship au Japon, l'Ultimate Fighting Championship aux États-Unis et le TKO au Canada. La France a légalisé ce sport depuis le 28 janvier 2008 et l'a "confié" à la fédération française de Full Contact. Sport considéré comme récent, le combat libre existe en réalité depuis longtemps et on en retrouve des traces dans de nombreux arts anciens.

Gemischte Kampfkünste oder kurz MMA (Mixed martial arts; deutsch: vermischte Kampfkünste) ist eine Mischung aus verschiedenen Kampfsporten oder auch Kampfkünsten, die von einem Kämpfer kombiniert werden. MMA ist ein hybrider Vollkontaktwettkampfsport. Die Bezeichnung MMA wird zumeist im englischen Sprachraum verwendet, in Deutschland, Frankreich und Osteuropa sind auch die Bezeichnungen Free Fight oder Mixed Fight verbreitet. Alle diese Begriffe beschreiben den selben Kampfsport. Lediglich das japanische Shooto und das ebenfalls in Japan beliebte "Pancrase - Hybrid Westling" können wegen ihres speziellen Regelsystems als eine besondere Variante der Mixed Martial Arts bezeichnet werden.

Mieszane sztuki walki (MMA, Mixed Martial Arts), dyscyplina sportowa, gdzie zawodnicy sztuk i sportów walki toczą pojedynki przy dużym zakresie dozwolonych technik (w zasadzie dopuszcza się wszystkie techniki dozwolone w innych sportach walki bez broni). Mieszane sztuki walki wyrażają jeden ze współczesnych kierunków rozwoju sztuk walki. Celem turniejów MMA jest zapewnienie widowiska sportowego, w którym walka toczy się przy jak najmniejszych ograniczeniach, ale jednoczesnym uniknięciu ryzyka śmierci i poważnych, trwałych obrażeń ciała. W szerszym sensie pojęcie "mieszane sztuki walki" obejmuje również style, które na bazie sportowego treningu MMA przygotowują do walki realnej.

Le arti marziali miste (AMM; spesso indicate con l'equivalente inglese Mixed martial arts , MMA o Valetudo) sono un sistema di combattimento che comprende una grande gamma di tecniche: pugni, calci, ginocchiate, gomitate, proiezioni, lotta a terra, leve articolari, strangolamenti .Le arti marziali miste possono essere praticate come sport di contatto regolamentato o in tornei con regole minime nei quali gli atleti vincono essenzialmente mandando l'avversario KO o sottomettendolo. Le maggiori organizzazioni di tornei di arti marziali miste sono la Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) e la PRIDE Fighting Championship (PRIDE).
