MINOS
MINOS (or Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search) is a particle physics experiment designed to study the phenomena of neutrino oscillations, first discovered by a Super-Kamiokande (Super-K) experiment in 1998. Neutrinos produced by the NuMI ("Neutrinos at Main Injector") beamline at Fermilab near Chicago are observed at two detectors, one very close to where the beam is produced (the near detector), and another much larger detector 735 km away in northern Minnesota (the far detector).

Minos
In Greek mythology, Minos (, Minos) was a king of Crete, son of Zeus and Europa. Every nine years he made King Aegeus pick seven men and seven women to go to Daedalus' creation, the labyrinth, to be eaten by The Minotaur. After his death, Minos became a judge of the dead in Hades. The Minoan civilization of Crete has been named after him by the archaeologist Arthur Evans. By his wife, Pasiphaë (or some say Crete), he fathered Ariadne, Androgeus, Deucalion, Phaedra, Glaucus, Catreus, Acacallis and Xenodike. By a nymph, Pareia, he had four sons, Eurymedon, Nephalion, Chryses and Philolaus, who were killed by Heracles in revenge for the murder of the latter's two companions; and by Dexithea, one of the Telchines, he had a son Euxanthius. By Androgeneia of Phaestus he had Asterion, who commanded the Cretan contingent in the war between Dionysus and the Indians. Also given as his children are Euryale, possibly the mother of Orion with Poseidon, and Pholegander, eponym of the island Pholegandros.

Minos
Dans la mythologie grecque, Minos (en grec ancien / Mínôs), fils de Zeus et d'Europe (la fille d’Agénor), est un roi légendaire de Crète. Son nom a été donné à la civilisation minoenne, qui fleurit en Crète au cours du On trouve sur une tablette en linéaire A, selon une récente tentative de lecture, le groupe Mwi-nu ro-ja, interprété comme désignant le "roi" (ro-ja) Minos (Mwi-nu), dans une langue ancienne indo-iranienne. Le nom Mwi-nu, qui aurait abouti en grec à Minos, serait l'équivalent du Muni sanskrit, c'est-à-dire de l'ascète ou de l'ermite, l'un des caractères de Minos selon la tradition antique. Le titre ro-ja apparaît sur d'autres tablettes avec d'autres anthroponymes et, sur les tables à libation en pierre, toujours dans cette écriture, le même titre accolé au nom du principal dieu, Asirai, a-s-i-rai (qui serait probablement l'équivalent du védique Asura et de l'avestique Ahura). Minos
Minos var i grekisk mytologi kung på Kreta, son till Zeus och Europa, bror till Rhadamantys och Sarpedon och make till Pasifaë. Minos betyder "den lycklige" och det är inte klarlagt om Minos var ett namn eller en titel. Efter sin död ansågs han ha blivit domare över de döda i Hades.

MINOS
MINOS – (ang. Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search) – eksperyment naukowy z dziedziny fizyki cząstek elementarnych prowadzony w USA w kopalni w Minnesocie.
Eksperyment badający zjawisko oscylacji neutrin akceleratorowych. MINOS należy do tzw. eksperymentów z długą bazą. Odbywa się on w dwóch ośrodkach: Fermilab (zawierającego m.in. akcelerator protonów do wytwarzania neutrin i bliski detektor) oraz odległy o 735 km Soudan (w nieczynnej podziemnej kopalni znajduje daleki detektor). Wytworzona w zderzeniu protonów z tarczą wiązka neutrin trafia najpierw do bliskiego detektora, następnie do dalekiego. Na podstawie różnicy zarejestrowanych neutrin w obu detektorach naukowcy badają zjawisko oscylacji tych cząstek.

Minos
Minos – król Krety według mitologii greckiej. Był synem Zeusa i Europy, zaś ojcem między innymi Ariadny i Androgeusza.
Według podań był potężnym i zdolnym władcą, który sprawił, że Kreta niepodzielnie panowała w tej części Morza Śródziemnego. Miał ukrócić piractwo i doprowadzić do rozkwitu handlu między państwami greckimi.
Żona Minosa, Pasyfae urodziła Minotaura, potwora o ciele człowieka i głowie byka. Zamieszkiwał on labirynt, zbudowany z polecenia Minosa przez Dedala. W wyniku wojen prowadzonych przez Minosa, Ateny i Megara musiały składać Minotaurowi doroczną (według innej wersji co 9 lat) ofiarę z 7 młodzieńców i 7 panien.
