Minor second

It is the smallest interval commonly used in Western music, and is considered the most dissonant. The most commonly written form of this interval is the minor second, notated using two adjacent letter names (e.g. C and D♭), but the augmented unison is also used, both notes having the same letter-name, with one of the notes being inflected by an accidental (e.g. C and C♯).

Als Sekunde (seltener auch kurz Sekund; v. lat. secundus, „der zweite“) bezeichnet man in der Musik das Intervall zwischen zwei Stufen einer diatonischen (heptatonischen) Skala. (z. B. c–d). Il semitono (ovvero seconda minore) è l'intervallo più piccolo che può intercorrere fra due note musicali.In realtà tutti i musicisti che hanno a che fare con strumenti a corda senza capotasti, con strumenti a fiato come il trombone e con la voce hanno familiarità anche con frazioni di semitono (che possono essere definite in vari modi come comma o cent o quarti di tono).I semitoni possono essere cromatici (l'intervallo che passa fra due suoni consecutivi dello stesso nome, di cui uno alterato, ad esempio Reb e Re), oppure diatonici (l'intervallo che passa fra due suoni consecutivi di nome diverso, come per esempio Do# e Re).
