Miletus

Miletus (Carian: Anactoria Hittite: Milawata or Millawanda, Greek: Μίλητος transliterated Miletos, Turkish: Milet) was an ancient city on the western coast of Anatolia (in what is now Aydin ProvinceTurkey), near the mouth of the Maeander River in ancient Caria. The site first became inhabited in the Bronze age. The city was part of the Ionian League.
