Mick Karn

Mick Karn (born July 24, 1958) is an English musician, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, most noted as the bassist for the art rock band Japan, from 1974 to 1982.Karn was born Anthony Michaelides in Nicosia, Cyprus before emigrating to London, England at the age of 3. He has worked with such noted and diverse artists as Gary Numan, Kate Bush, Midge Ure and Joan Armatrading as well as being a member of Dali's Car with Peter Murphy of the gothic post-punk group Bauhaus. In the 1990s he worked with artist David Torn as well as a number of Japanese musicians, including the band NiNa.

È noto soprattutto per la sua militanza nel gruppo art-rock dei Japan. Dopo lo scioglimento dei Japan nel 1982, Mick Karn ha pubblicato un album solista nello stesso anno, "Titles". Nel 1984 è uscito invece "The Waking Hour", album realizzato in collaborazione con Peter Murphy dei Bauhaus ed accreditato col nome di Dalis Car. Quest'esperienza non è durata a lungo e Mick Karn ha preferito proseguire come solista e musicista turnista per altri artisti. Oltre a suonare il basso, Mick Karn si diletta anche con le tastiere, le percussioni e i fiati. È anche un apprezzato scultore.

Mick Karn (Nicosia, 24 juli 1958 - ) is een Brits musicus. Hij is vooral bekend als basgitarist van de jaren tachtig popgroep Japan.Karn werd op Cyprus geboren als Anthony Michaelides. Hij studeerde fagot en klarinet, en schakelde vervolgens over op de fretloze basgitaar. In 1974 richtte hij Japan op met de gebroeders David en Steve Batt, die zich David Sylvian en Steve Jansen noemden. Later bracht hij als eerste Japan-lid een soloalbum uit: Titles (1982).

Mick Karn, de nombre real Anthony Michaelides, nació en Nicosia, Chipre el 24 de julio de 1958. Cuando tenía 3 años, sus padres decidieron mudarse a Londres, Inglaterra, y una vez establecidos en ese país, el padre trabajó de carnicero.En el colegio conoció a David Sylvian y a Richard Barbieri, quienes compartían sus gustos por la música. Junto al primero y el hermano menor de éste, Steve Jansen, formaron en 1974 una banda, la cual empezó a tocar por diferentes lugares de Londres. Se dice que Karn iba a ser el cantante, pero debido a su temor no lo iba a ser, así que Sylvian tomaría el lugar rechazado. Con Barbieri y Rob Dean en la banda, Japan se comenzó a grabar demos, hasta que a finales de 1977 gabarían su primer álbum "Adolescent Sex", el cual saldría al año siguiente.
