Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, more commonly called MARTA, is the principal rapid-transit system in the Atlanta metropolitan area and the ninth-largest in the United States. MARTA operates a network of bus routes linked to a heavy rail rapid transit system consisting of 48 miles (77 kilometers) of track with 38  train stations. As of 2006, the system has an average weekday ridership of 451,064 passengers. The MARTA acronym is pronounced as a single word, not as individual letters.

Die Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority oder auch kurz MARTA ist ein großer Nahverkehrsbetrieb in Atlanta, Georgia in den USA. Die MARTA betreibt ein Netzwerk aus Bussen und Schienenverkehr. 1972 übernahm die MARTA das Busnetz des Atlanta Transit System, ab 1979 fuhren die ersten Züge auf der East Line. Bis zu den Olympischen Spielen in Atlanta 1996 wurde das Bahnnetz ständig erweitert. Mittlerweile gibt es sechs Bahnlinien: Die East Line, die South Line, die West Line und die North Line, die sich alle an der zentralen Station Five Points treffen, sowie der Northeast Line, die nach der Haltestelle N6 Lindbergh Center von der North Line abgeht und der Proctor Creek Line, die nach der Haltestelle W3 Ashby die West Line verlässt.
