Embryophyte
The land plants or embryophytes, more formally Embryophyta or Metaphyta, are the most familiar group of plants. They are called 'land plants' because they live primarily in terrestrial habitats, in contrast with the related green algae that are primarily aquatic. The embryophytes include trees, flowers, ferns, mosses, and various other green land plants. All are complex multicellular eukaryotes with specialized reproductive organs. With very few exceptions, embryophytes obtain their energy through photosynthesis (that is, by absorbing light); and they synthesize their food from carbon dioxide.

Planten
De planten (Plantae) zijn een rijk in het domein der eukaryoten (Eukaryota). De wetenschappelijke discipline plantkunde houdt zich bezig met de studie van het plantenrijk.

Planten treden vaak in karakteristieke groepen, de zogenaamde plantengemeenschappen op.

De opbouw van een typische plant is meestal bovengronds een of meer stengels met bladeren (en met tot bloemen omgevormde bladeren) en ondergronds wortels. Hierop bestaan echter vele variaties. Zo leeft darmwier bijvoorbeeld totaal anders.

O Reino Plantae, Metaphyta ou Vegetal é um dos principais grupos em que se divide a vida na Terra (com cerca de 400.000 espécies conhecidas, incluindo uma grande variedade: ervas, árvores, arbustos, plantas microscópicas, etc). São, em geral, organismos autotróficos cujas células incluem um ou mais organelos especializados na produção de material orgânico a partir de material inorgânico e da energia solar: os cloroplastos.
