MetLife

MetLife, Inc.  NYSE: MET is the holding corporation for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company or MetLife for short. The firm was founded on March 24, 1868. For most of its life the company was a mutual organization, but it went public in 2000.

La Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, où MetLife est une entreprise, spécialisée dans les assurances. La MetLife a été créée le 24 mars 1868. Elle est publique depuis 2000, et est côtée au NYSE. Le siège social de la MetLife est situé sur Park Avenue, dans le MetLife Building, acheté par la compagnie en 1992 après la faillite de Pan American World Airways. Jusqu'à 2005, le siège de la compagnie était situé sur One Madison Avenue, dans deux bâtiments parmi lesquels se trouve la Metropolitan Life Tower. La Metropolitan Life Tower fut d'ailleurs la plus haute tour du monde lors de sa construction en 1909. La Metlife possédait aussi des bureaux sur le 89 étage de la tour nord du World Trade Center.
