Messiah
Messiah, or Mashiach, designates a king or High Priest traditionally anointed with holy anointing oil as described in Exodus 30:22-25. The term was not applied exclusively to Jewish kings, and the Hebrew Bible refers to Cyrus the Great, king of Persia, as a messiah. Following the death of Simon bar Kokhba, the term came to refer to a Jewish king who would rule at the end of history. In later Jewish messianic tradition and eschatology, messiah refers to a leader anointed by God, and in some cases, a future King of Israel, physically descended from the Davidic line, who will rule the united tribes of Israel and herald the Messianic Age of global peace.

Messie
Le Messie (de l'hébreu: מָשִׁיחַ - mashia'h, araméen meshi'ha משיחא, arabe Masih المسيح) désignait initialement dans le judaïsme l'oint, c'est-à-dire la personne consacrée par le rituel de l'onction, réalisée par un prophète de Dieu. Un roi, comme Saül ou David par exemple, peut recevoir l'onction.

Pomazaniec
Pomazaniec – Namaszczony, z hebr. – Mesjasz (מָשִׁיחַ), z gr. Chrystus (χριστός), pot. – Wybraniec. Gest namaszczenia (pomazania) oznaczał konsekrację.

Pierwotnie, w Starym Testamencie, tytuł ten odnosił się wyłącznie do osób, z których powołaniem wiązał się obrzęd namaszczenia olejem. Zaliczali się do nich królowie (por. Saul), kapłani (por. Aaron) oraz prorocy (por. Elizeusz). W okresie przesiedleń termin Pomazańca zaczął być wiązany z prorockimi zapowiedziami Wyzwoliciela mającego przywrócić Królestwo Izraela. Miał on być charyzmatycznym i mądrym przywódcą politycznym, który przyniósłby całemu światu poznanie Boga i szczęśliwy pokój, zaś ludowi żydowskiemu - szczęśliwe bytowanie w ziemi izraelskiej.
