Meshwesh

The Meshwesh (often abbreviated in ancient Egyptian as Ma) were an ancient Libyan (i.e., Berber) tribe from Cyrenaica. During the 19th and 20th Dynasties, the Meshwesh were in almost constant conflict with the Egyptian state. In the late 21st Dynasty, increasing numbers of Meswesh Libyans began to settled in the Western Delta rehion of Egypt. They would ultimately take control of the country during the late 21st Dynasty first under king Osorkon the Elder. After an interregnum of 38 years, during which the native Egyptian kings Siamun and Psusennes II assumed the throne, they ruled Egypt throughout the 22nd and 23rd Dynasties under such powerful kings as Shoshenq I, Osorkon I, Osorkon II, Shoshenq III and Osorkon III respectively. Their reign only came to an end with the invasion of the Kushite 25th Dynasty in Year 20 of Piye.

Les Machaouach sont les membres d'une tribu libyenne antique, des Berbères. Cette tribu était connue des Égyptiens depuis fort longtemps : son nom figure sur la liste des peuples envahisseurs vaincus par Mérenptah (vers -1213 / -1202), fils et successeur de Ramsès .

Los mashauash o ma, también llamados mashawash, meshwesh o maxies, eran los miembros de una antigua tribu de bereberes libios. Esta tribu era conocida por los egipcios desde hacía mucho tiempo: su nombre figuraba en la lista de los pueblos invasores vencidos por Merenptah (c. 1213 -1203 adC), hijo y sucesor de Ramsés II. Los mashauash estaban instalados al oeste del delta del Nilo, según los documentos egipcios, más allá de los Tehenu, en la Cirenaica, región de la antigua Libia. Heródoto los situaba en Tunicia y eran sedentarios, pues eran agricultores y poseían casas. Heródoto dice que los mashauash, según ellos, descienden de los troyanos. Esta tribu intentó extenderse hacia el este e invadió periódicamente Egipto, a partir de Amenofis III, hacia 1380 adC.
