Autocode is the name of a family of
high-level programming languages devised in the 50's and 60's for a series of computers at the Universities of
Manchester and
Cambridge. The first autocode was developed by
Alick Glennie in 1952 for the Mark I computer at the University of Manchester and is considered by some to be the first compiler for a high-level language.Second autocode was developed for the Mark I by R. A. Brooker in 1954 and was called the "Mark I Autocode".
