Membership Action Plan (MAP) is a term for countries that are in a stage of becoming members of
NATO.The current MAP-countries are:
Albania, the
Republic of Macedonia (both since April 1999) and
Croatia (since May 2002).It is expected that Georgia and
Montenegro will become MAP-countries at the
NATO summit in
2008. MAP is designed to assist aspiring partner countries meet NATO standards and prepare for possible future membership.
