Melanesian mythology

Melanesian mythology refers to the mythology of Melanesia covering the islands of New Guinea, the Admiralty Islands, the Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Norfolk Island. The Melanesians had a complex religious system similar to Western Polynesia. Much of Melanesian mythology was tied to their local area. Many Melanesians have converted to Christianity as a result of missionary activity in Melanesia since 1850.
