Melampus
In
Greek Mythology, Melampus, or Melampous (
Greek: Μέλαμπος), was a
legendary soothsayer and
healer originally of
Pylos, who ruled at
Argos; he was the introducer of the worship of Dionysus, according to
Herodotus, who asserted that his powers as a seer were derived from the
Egyptians and that he could understand the language of animals. A number of
pseudepigraphal works of
divination circulated in Classical and Hellenistic times under the name of Melampus. According to Herodotus and
Pausanias (vi.17.6), on the authority of
Hesiod, his father was Amythaon, whose name implies the "ineffable" or "unspeakably great"; Melampus and his heirs were thus Amythaides, of the "House of Amythaon".

Melampus legendarny wieszcz i wróżbita grecki i prorok. Syn Amythaona i Idiomene. Stał się sławny dzięki swemu dziełu, w którym wyjaśniał wróżenie z drgań członków. Słowo Melampus znaczy („czarnonogi”). Mity mówią, że niegdyś jego uszy polizały węże, dlatego rozumiał mowę zwierząt, przepowiadał i leczył, był założycielem rodu proroków Melampodydów. Swoje magiczne moce wykorzystywał dla własnego dobra i dla brata, Biasa. Jego żona Iphianassa urodziła mu pięcioro dzieci: Anthiphatesa, Mantiosa,
Abasa, Pronoe i Manto.

Melampo
Melampo è una figura della
mitologia greca, figlio di Amitone e di
Idomenea, discendente di
Eolo. Il suo nome significa "piedi neri": fu così chiamato perchè, non portando mai calzari, aveva i piedi anneriti dal sole. Comprendeva il linguaggio degli animali e possedeva virtù profetiche. Guarì dalla pazzia le figlie di Preto, re di Tirinto, e sposò una di esse.
