Matsu Islands

The Matsu Islands are a minor archipelago of 19 islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait administered as Lienchiang County (連江 Pinyin: Liánjiāng), Fukien Province of the Republic of China (ROC). Not all of what is historically part of Lienchiang county is under the control of the ROC. The People's Republic of China controls the part of the county adjoining the mainland and has a separate administration for that jurisdiction,  Lianjiang County, which claims the entire archipelago to be its Mazu Township (媽祖鄉).

Die Matsu-Inseln sind eine kleine Inselgruppe aus 19 Inseln in der Taiwan-Straße vor der Küste der chinesischen Provinz Fujian, zu der sie historisch auch gehören. Sie werden wie die Insel Quemoy von der Republik China auf Taiwan verwaltet. Das Besondere ist, dass beide Inseln der nationalchinesischen Provinzverwaltung von Fujian unterstehen. Sie sind also der letzte Teil Festlandchinas, der von den Nationalchinesen (bzw. Taiwanern) kontrolliert wird. Nur die Inseln Taiwan und die Pescadoren gehören der "Provinz Taiwan" der Republik China an.

Matsu (馬祖列島 lub rzadziej, 馬祖群島  pinyin: Mázǔ) to mały  archipelag, obejmujący 19 wysepek, należący do Republiki Chińskiej. Wyspy te zamieszkuje 11 tys ludzi, łącznie zajmują one obszar ok. 30 km².
