Matriz is a parish in the municipality of
Horta and also forms a part of this municipal seat in the
Azores. The population in
2001 is 2,523, its density is 1,557.4/km² and the area is 1.62 km². It is the smallest parishes in the island. It is also the densest and the second most populated parish in Horta. The parish is named after a local church in the area named Matriz do SS.º Salvador da Horta.
