Mary I of England

Mary Tudor is the name of both Mary I of England and her father's sister, Mary Tudor, Queen of France. Mary I (18 February, 1516 –  17 November, 1558), also known as Mary Tudor, was Queen of England and Queen of Ireland from 6 July1553 (de facto) or 19 July 1553 (de jure) until her death on 17 November, 1558.Mary, the fourth crowned monarch of the Tudor dynasty, after the uncrowned Jane Grey and before Elizabeth I, is remembered for briefly returning England to Roman Catholicism. To this end, she had almost three hundred religious dissenters executed; as a consequence, she is often known as Bloody Mary. Her reestablishment of Roman Catholicism was reversed by her successor and half-sister, Elizabeth I (1558–1603). Mary and Elizabeth were both first cousins once-removed of  Mary, Queen of Scots, granddaughter of their aunt Margaret Tudor.

Marie I ou Marie Tudor ( - ) fille du roi Henri VIII avant-dernier monarque de la dynastie Tudor. Reine d'Angleterre, de France (seulement en titre) et d'Irlande de plein droit, elle fut aussi reine consort d'Espagne par son mariage avec le roi Philippe II. Surnommée « Marie la Sanglante » (Bloody Mary) par les protestants, à cause des persécutions qu'elle mena envers eux pendant son règne de 1553 à 1558 pour rétablir la religion catholique en Angleterre.

Maria I. Tudor (eng. Mary Tudor) (* 18. Februar 1516 in Greenwich; † 17. November 1558 im St. James's Palace) war von 1553 bis 1558 Königin von England und Irland.Die erste Monarchin und vierte Person in der Königsliste aus dem Haus Tudor regierte in einer Zeit großer religiöser Spannungen. Die Tochter von König Heinrich VIII., der die englische Kirche von der römisch-katholischen getrennt hatte, versuchte, den Katholizismus erneut als Staatsreligion zu etablieren. Dabei kam es zur Hinrichtung von fast dreihundert Protestanten. Die Nachwelt bezeichnete sie daher, je nach religiösem Standpunkt, mit den Beinamen „die Katholische“ oder „die Blutige“ (engl. „Bloody Mary“). Marias protestantische Halbschwester und Nachfolgerin Elisabeth I. machte ihre religionspolitischen Maßnahmen wieder rückgängig.

Maria I (ur. 18 lutego 1516 w Greenwich, zm. 17 listopada 1558 w St. James's Palace), zwana Krwawą Marią (Bloody Mary), królowa Anglii w latach 1553-1558, królowa Hiszpanii w latach 1556-1558, córka króla Anglii Henryka VIII Tudora i jego pierwszej żony Katarzyny Aragońskiej, córki Ferdynanda II Katolickiego, króla Aragonii i Izabeli I Katolickiej, królowej Kastylii, wdowy po starszym bracie Henryka, Arturze Tudorze. Maria była starszą siostrą króla Edwarda VI i królowej Elżbiety I, ale każde z rodzeństwa miało inną matkę.

Figlia di Enrico VIII e Caterina di Aragona (figlia di Isabella e Ferdinando di Spagna), Maria, quarta e penultima monarca della dinastia Tudor, è ricordata soprattutto per il tentativo di restaurare il cattolicesimo in Inghilterra dopo la Riforma. Avendo fatto giustiziare almeno trecento oppositori religiosi, è nota anche come "Maria la Sanguinaria" (ed in epoca moderna lo stesso nome ha assunto un cocktail, il Bloody Mary).
