MaRS Discovery District is a not-for-profit corporation founded in Toronto in 2000. Its stated goal is to commercialize publicly funded medical research with the help of local private enterprises and as such is a public-private partnership.

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun in the Solar System. Named after the Roman god of war, Mars, it is often described as the "Red Planet" as the iron oxide prevalent on its surface gives it a reddish appearance. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, having surface features reminiscent both of the impact craters of the Moon and the volcanoes, valleys, deserts, and polar ice caps of Earth. The rotational period and seasonal cycles of Mars are likewise similar to those of Earth, as is the tilt that produces the seasons. Mars is the site of Olympus Mons, the highest known mountain within the Solar System, and of Valles Marineris, the largest canyon. The smooth Borealis basin in the northern hemisphere covers 40% of the planet and may be a giant impact feature.

Der Mars ist, von der Sonne aus gesehen, der vierte Planet in unserem Sonnensystem und der äußere Nachbar der Erde. Er zählt zu den erdähnlichen (terrestrischen) Planeten.

Mars est la quatrième planète du système solaire en partant du Soleil et la deuxième plus petite après Mercure. Elle fait partie des planètes telluriques. Elle est nommée d’après le dieu romain de la guerre Mars, identifié au dieu grec Arès, en raison de son apparence rougeâtre. Pour la même raison, elle est aussi appelée la « planète rouge ».

Mars är den fjärde planeten från solen och solsystemets näst minsta planet. Planeten har fått sitt namn efter den romerska krigsguden Mars och kallas ibland för "den röda planeten" på grund av sitt rödaktiga utseende. Den röda färgen beror på stora mängder järnoxid (rost) som finns fördelat över ytan och i atmosfären. Mars är en av de fyra stenplaneterna och har en tunn atmosfär som till största delen består av koldioxid. Ytan är täckt av kratrar av olika storlekar likt månen, men Mars har precis som jorden även många vulkaner, dalgångar, vidsträckta slätter och iskalotter vid polerna.

Zawdzięcza ją swej barwie, która przy obserwacji wydaje się być rdzawo-czerwona i kojarzyła się starożytnym z pożogą wojenną. Postrzegany odcień wynika stąd, że powierzchnia planety jest pokryta tlenkami żelaza. Mars posiada dwa niewielkie księżyce o nieregularnych kształtach – Fobosa i Deimosa – prawdopodobnie są to dwie planetoidy przechwycone przez pole grawitacyjne planety. Przypuszcza się, że mogło na niej kiedyś powstać życie, jednak obecnie nie ma na to solidnych dowodów.
