Marjorie Proops
Rebecca Marjorie Proops (born Rebecca Marjorie Israel in East London) (10 August 1911-10 November 1996) was a British agony aunt, writing the column Dear Marje for the Daily Mirror. She was probably the best known agony aunt in the UK. She was educated at Dalston Secondary School in London and in 1935 married military man Sidney Joseph Proops, and they had a son called Robert. In 1939 Proops became a journalist. Her first job was as the fashion correspondent of the Daily Mirror. Several years later, the problem page editor died and she was given the job of reading and answering the mail. Proops soon became the Agony Aunt, a post she would hold until her death.
