Maringá

Maringá is a city in southern Brazil that was founded on May 10, 1947. Maringá is the third largest city in the state of Paraná. The city has a population of 298,828 (estimation IBGE, 2002), 490,030 (metropolitan area, estimation IBGE, 2002). It is a regional centre and is made up of commerce, services, agro-industries, and universities, including the State University of Maringá.

It evolved among the Kru people of Sierra Leone and Liberia, who used Portuguese guitars brought by sailors, combining local melodies and rhythms with Trinidadian calypso. Palm-wine music was named after a drink, palm wine, made from the naturally fermented sap of the oil palm, which was drunk at gatherings where early African guitarists played.

Maringá ist eine Großstadt im  brasilianischen Bundesstaat Paraná. Sie wurde am 10. Mai 1947 gegründet und nach einem Generalbebauungsplan von Jorge Macedo Vieira errichtet. Sie wurde nach einem brasilianischem Schlager gleichen Namens benannt.
