Marikoriko
[Polynesian] The first woman according to Maori mythology. She was shaped from the vibrating heat of the noon sunshine by the goddess of mirages Arohirohi. She then asked Paoro, the goddess of echoes, to give Woman a voice, which she did. This first woman was then given a name, Marikoriko (Hawaiian, mali'o, "the first rays of light, aurora") and a husband, Tiki, the first man and co-creator of the earth. They had a daughter, the first child ever born on earth. They called her Hine-Kau-Ataata.
