General info:
The more plants and secluded areas within terrariums the better. Frogs have sensitive skin and generally would rather not be handled. Most wild mantellas have toxins in their skin for protection from predators. If handling is desired, it is important to wash hands before and after handling. Children should not handle mantellas. Size: Adult length up to 1".
Temperature/Humidity:
Ideal daytime temperature for mantellas should range between 75ºF and 80ºF. Nighttime temperature should remain between 65ºF and 75ºF. The humidity for these frogs should be kept at or near 80 percent.
Lighting:
Since mantellas are diurnal (mainly active during the day) ultraviolet lighting is recommended to maintain good health. Ultraviolet lighting is recommended for 12 hours per day. The use of a timer will help in maintaining an accurate lighting schedule.
Feeding/Watering:
Mantellas do well on a diet consisting of a variety of vitamin/calcium dusted insects such as 1/8 inch crickets. Additional insects that can be fed include, but are not limited to: springtails, wingless fruitflies, and termites. Fresh clean water should always be available in the form of a shallow bowl for soaking. Adult frogs should be fed 3-4 times per week. Juveniles can be fed daily.
