Mandate (international law)

In international law, a mandate is a binding obligation issued from an inter-governmental organization like the United Nations to a country which is bound to follow the instructions of the organization.Before the creation of the United Nations, all mandates were issued from the League of Nations. An example of such a mandate would be Australian New Guinea, which is officially the Territory of Papua.

מנדט הוא ייפוי כוח הניתן לאחת המעצמות לשלוט באופן זמני או חלקי על טריטוריה המאוכלסת על ידי קבוצת אוכלוסייה שעדיין אינה מסוגלת לממש שלטון עצמי או שהוטלו עליה סנקציות מסוימות. זוהי מסירה מסוג פיקדון שמטרתה להדריך את האוכלוסייה בצעדים הנדרשים לשם יצירת שלטון עצמי. המנדט אמור להסתיים כאשר העם מסוגל לנהל את ענייניו בעצמו. לרוב מתייחסים למושג זה כאשר מתכוונים למנדטים של חבר הלאומים, שנוסדו על פי סעיף 22 לאמנת חבר הלאומים.
