Manannán mac Lir is a sea deity in Irish mythology. He is the son of the obscure Lir (in Irish the name is "Lear", meaning "Sea"; "Lir" is the genitive form of the word). He is often seen as a psychopomp, and has strong affiliations with the Otherworld, the weather and the mists between the worlds. He is usually associated with the Tuatha Dé Danann, although most scholars consider him to be of an older race of deities. Manannán figures widely in Irish literature, and appears also in Scottish and Manx legend. He is cognate with the Welsh figure Manawydan fab Llyr.

Manannan mac Lir ist eine irische Sagengestalt. Sie galt als der Sohn des Meeres Lir und Lokalgeist oder Verkörperung der Isle of Man. Beinamen sind "Lodan" und "Oirbsen". Als Lodan ist er der Vater der Göttin Macha oder Sinend, als Oirbsen ist er der Geist des Sees Loch Oirbsen in Irland. Seine walisische Entsprechung ist Manawyddan.

Dans la mythologie celtique irlandaise, Manannan Mac Lir, littéralement « le Mannois fils de Lir » (Lir étant l’Océan) , son équivalent Gallois est Manawyddan Fab Llyr. Il appartient aux Tuatha Dé Danann (Gens de la Déesse Dana), c’est le dieu-guerrier souverain de l’Autre Monde celtique, le (Sidh). Il en est le régisseur et maître, et à ce titre, il fournit aux autres dieux les cochons fabuleux servis au Festin d’Immortalité.
