Mammoth
A mammoth is any species of the extinct genus Mammuthus, proboscideans commonly equipped with long, curved tusks and, in northern species, a covering of long hair. They lived from the Pliocene epoch from around 5 million years ago, into the Holocene at about 4,500 years ago. and were members of the family Elephantidae, which contains, along with mammoths, the two genera of modern elephants and their ancestors.

Mammuts
Als Mammut (Plural: Mammuts oder Mammute), wissenschaftlicher Name Mammuthus (von frz. mammouth < russ.: mamont < vermutlich aus dem Waldnenzischen), bezeichnet man eine ausgestorbene Gattung von Elefanten, die im Pliozän und Pleistozän mit verschiedenen Arten in Nordamerika, Europa, Asien und Afrika vorkam. Die letzten Vertreter der Gattung starben erst vor rund 4000 Jahren auf der Wrangel-Insel im sibirischen Eismeer aus.

Mamut
Mamut (Mammuthus) - nazwa ta odnosi się do kilku gatunków trąbowców, wymarłych pod koniec ostatniej epoki lodowcowej, u schyłku plejstocenu, zamieszkujących rozległe obszary Europy, Ameryki Północnej i północnej Azji.
Najczęściej pod pojęciem mamuta rozumie się wymarłego pod koniec ostatniej epoki lodowcowej mamuta włochatego (zw. też mamutem właściwym), choć większość gatunków mamutów nie posiadała owłosienia.
Wyodrębnia się kilka gatunków mamutów:
- mamut włochaty, zwany także mamutem właściwym (Mammuthus primigenius)
- mamut stepowy (Mammuthus trogontheri)
- mamut kolumbijski (Mammuthus columbi)
- mamut karłowaty (Mammuthus columbi exilis)
- mamut cesarski(Mammuthus columbi imperator)
- mamut Jeffersona (Mammuthus columbi jeffersoni)
- mamut południowy (Mammuthus meridionalis)
- Mammuthus subplanifrons
- Mammuthus africanavus
