Makati City

The City of Makati, or simply Makati, is one of the cities and municipalities that make up Metro Manila, the greater metropolitan area of the national capital of the Philippines. It is the major financial, commercial and economical hub in the Philippines, often referred to as the financial capital of the Philippines since many global companies have their offices and headquarters in the city. Makati is also home to the influential Makati Business Club and the Philippine Stock Exchange. Ayala Avenue, running through the heart of the Central Business District is often called the Wall Street of the Philippines.

Makati City is een stad op het eiland Luzon in de Filipijnen. Ze vormt samen met 16 andere steden en gemeenten de National Capital Region, die ook wel Metro Manilla wordt genoemd. Volgens de laatste officiële telling uit 2000 had de stad een inwonertal van 444.867 mensen verdeeld over 98.225 huishoudens op een totale oppervlakte van 27,3 km².

Macati (inglés: Makati) es una de las ciudades más importantes de Filipinas en cuanto a finanzas y comercio. Se nota por su cultura muy cosmopolita.El nombre Makati tiene su origen en la palabra tagala kati, que significa marea. Esto primeramente refiere al flujo y reflujo del río Pasig al norte de la ciudad. Durante la época española, se llama San Pedro Macati.
