The mentum is the distal part of the labium in insects. The mentum bears the labial palps and the
ligula. Some
dragonfly nymphs have menta that bear toothed palps.The mentum also refers to the protruding part of the
human chin.The mentum can also refer to a thin projection below the mouth of certain mollusks, as in the family
Pyramidellidae.
