A map is a visual representation of an area—a symbolic depiction highlighting relationships between elements of that space such as objects, regions, and themes.Many maps are static two-dimensional, geometrically accurate representations of three-dimensional space, while others are dynamic or interactive, even three-dimensional. Although most commonly used to depict geography, maps may represent any space, real or imagined, without regard to context or scale; e.g. Brain mapping, DNA mapping, and extra-terrestrial mapping.

Une carte géographique est une représentation d'un espace géographique. Elle met en valeur l'étendue de cet espace, sa localisation relative par rapport aux espaces voisins, ainsi que la localisation des éléments qu'il contient. Les cartes servent à représenter des phénomènes géographiques, c'est-à-dire des phénomènes dont la configuration spatiale produit du sens.

Die Karte ist ein digitales oder analoges Informationsmittel (Medium), das raumbezogene Gegenstände, Sachverhalte und Prozesse maßstabsbezogen generalisiert darstellt, mit Hilfe eines grafischen Zeichensystems veranschaulicht und durch Schriftzusätze erläutert. Eine Karte kann in einer Datenbank gespeichert, auf einem Bildschirm präsentiert oder auf Papier gedruckt sein. Die digitale Karte erlaubt darüber hinaus die Einbeziehung weiterer, z. B. bildlicher und akustischer Medien sowie die interaktive Kommunikation mit dem Benutzer. Die Karte visualisiert abstrakte raumbezogene Daten und nur schwer formulierbare räumliche Zusammenhänge mit dem Ziel, diese für den Menschen leicht verständlich zu machen. Im weitesten Sinne vermittelt und veranschaulicht sie also raumbezogenes Wissen. Visualisierungsräume der Karte sind vor allem die Erde und die Erdteile mit ihren Staaten und Regionen. Aber auch andere Himmelskörper, insbesondere Mond und Mars, sind Darstellungsgegenstände der Karte.

Maps ist der Künstlername des britischen Popmusikers James Chapman. Der aus der englischen Stadt Northampton stammende Künstler ist stilistisch dem Elektropop der Neunziger Jahre, dem psychedelischen Folkrock und dem so genannten Shoegazing (Dreampop) zuzuordnen. Typisch an Chapmans Musik ist nicht nur, dass sie mit elektronischen Instrumenten begleitet wird, sondern auch über eine melancholische sowie melodische Art verfügt, die teilweise auch an Bands wie My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, die Chemical Brothers und The Byrds erinnert. Trotz des nachdenklichen Stils beinhalten die meisten Stücke rhythmische Beats (eng:bi:ts).
