MAMBO

Mambo is a Cuban musical form and dance style. The word mambo (conversation with the gods) is the name of a priestess in Haitian Voodoo, derived from the language of the African slaves who were imported into the Caribbean.

"Mambo!" was Helena Paparizou fifth CD single and the first from her international album The Game of Love. There were two versions of the song; a Greek version and an English Version. The Greek version was released in November 2005 in Greece and was a major hit going straight to number one for ten weeks including Christmas number and leaving Helena with her most successful CD single to date. Her single continued to stay in the charts for an amazing 23 weeks. Her single was released as a CD single and Sony BMG also re-released Helena's debut album Protereotita for a third time with her single in under the name of Protereotita: Euro Edition + Mambo!.

Mambo bezeichnet eine Musikrichtung, die sich nach 1930 in Kuba entwickelt hat und den dazugehörigen Tanz, der parallel zur Musik entstand.Der Begriff Mambo wurde erstmals 1931 als Titel eines Stückes von Oreste López verwendet. Ursprünglich bezeichnet das vermutlich kreolische Wort Mambo ein „religiöses Gespräch“ (insbesondere ein Gebet) oder eine heilige Handlung. Es stammt aus dem afrikanisch geprägten Kuba.

Mambo – taniec towarzyski pochodzący z Kuby, w metrum parzystym. Ukształtował się w latach 30. XX wieku.To fuzja swingu i muzyki kubańskiej stworzyła rytm, który był początkiem mambo. Szczyty popularności tego tańca to lata 40. oraz część lat 50. ubiegłego stulecia. Potem cha-cha wyparła ten taniec z salonów i stracił on popularność.Obecnie mambo znowu zyskuje sobie zwolenników dzięki takim filmom, jak Dirty Dancing czy Dirty Dancing 2 (Havana Nights).
