MAC address

In computer networking a Media Access Control address (MAC address) or Ethernet Hardware Address (EHA) or hardware address or adapter address is a quasi-unique identifier attached to most network adapters (NICs). It is a number that acts like a name for a particular network adapter, so, for example, the network cards (or built-in network adapters) in two different computers will have different names, or MAC addresses, as would an Ethernet adapter and a wireless adapter in the same computer, and as would multiple network cards in a router. However, it is possible to change the MAC address on most of today's hardware, often referred to as MAC spoofing.

En réseau informatique une adresse MAC (Media Access Control address) est un identifiant physique stocké dans une carte réseau ou une interface réseau similaire et utilisé pour attribuer mondialement une adresse unique au niveau de la couche de liaison (couche 2 du modèle OSI). C'est la partie inférieure de celle-ci (sous-couche d'accès au média – Media Access Control) qui s'occupe d'insérer et de traiter ces adresses au sein des trames transmises.

Die MAC-Adresse (Media Access Control, Ethernet-ID oder bei Apple Airport-ID und Ethernet-ID genannt) ist die Hardware-Adresse jedes einzelnen Netzwerkadapters, die zur eindeutigen Identifikation des Geräts im Netzwerk dient.Die MAC-Adresse wird der Sicherungsschicht, Schicht 2 des OSI-Modells, zugeordnet. Um die Sicherungsschicht mit der Vermittlungsschicht zu verbinden, wird zum Beispiel bei Ethernet das Address Resolution Protocol verwendet.Netzwerkgeräte brauchen dann eine MAC-Adresse, wenn sie auf Schicht 2 explizit adressiert werden sollen, um Dienste auf höheren Schichten anzubieten. Leitet das Gerät wie ein Repeater oder Hub die Netzwerkpakete nur weiter, ist es auf der Sicherungsschicht nicht sichtbar und braucht folglich keine MAC-Adresse. Bridges und Switches untersuchen zwar die Pakete der Sicherungsschicht, um das Netzwerk physikalisch in mehrere Kollisionsdomänen aufzuteilen, nehmen aber selbst nicht aktiv an der Kommunikation teil, brauchen also ebenfalls keine MAC-Adresse.

Firma chciała stworzyć łatwy w obsłudze komputer, który będzie w stanie obsłużyć każdy użytkownik bez specjalnej wiedzy informatycznej. W tym celu opracowano intuicyjny system operacyjny Mac OS, znany początkowo pod nazwą wyjaśniającą jego funkcję - "System" (tak był nazywany do wersji 7.5), zastąpiony w 2000 przez nowy system Apple'a - Mac OS X (spotykany także pod krótszą nazwą, OS X).

L'indirizzo MAC (MAC address in inglese) viene detto anche indirizzo fisico o indirizzo ethernet o indirizzo LAN, ed è un codice di 48 bit (6 byte) assegnato in modo univoco ad ogni scheda di rete ethernet prodotta al mondo. Rappresenta in sostanza un nome per un particolare dispositivo di rete: ad esempio due schede di rete in due diversi calcolatori avranno due diversi nomi (e quindi diversi indirizzi MAC), così come avranno nomi diversi una scheda Ethernet ed una scheda wireless posizionate nel medesimo computer.
