MACAWS

Macaws are large colourful New World parrots, classified into six of the many Psittacidae genera: Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca, and Diopsittaca. They are the largest birds in the parrot family in length and wingspan, though the flightless Kakapo is heavier. Previously, the members of the genus Primolius were placed in Propyrrhura, but the former is correct as per ICZN rules.

Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance for Wireless (MACAW) is a slotted Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol widely used in Ad-hoc networks. Furthermore, it is foundation of many other MAC protocols used in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The IEEE 802.11 RTS/CTS mechanism is adopted from this protocol . It uses RTS-CTS-DS-DATA-ACK frame sequence for transferring data, sometimes preceded by an RTS-RRTS frame sequence, in view to provide solution to the hidden terminal problem. Although protocols based on MACAW, such as S-MAC, use carrier sense in addition to the RTC/CTS mechanism, MACAW does not make use of carrier sense.

Ara est un nom vernaculaire donné aux membres les plus grands de la des Psittacinae. Ils portent un plumage vivement coloré, généralement à dominante rouge ou verte, une longue queue et un bec puissant. Ils vivent en Amérique tropicale. Recherchés pour leurs couleurs chatoyantes et pour leur aptitude à « parler » comme beaucoup d'autre Psittacinae, les aras sont menacés d'extinction à l'état sauvage. Une espèce, l'Ara de Spix, a même disparu dans la nature. Les seuls spécimens vivant à l'heure actuelle se trouvent en captivité. Dans la nature, les aras se nourrissent en bandes.

Ara - rodzaj ptaków z rodziny papugowatych, zamieszkujących Amerykę Południową. Charakteryzują się dużymi rozmiarami i bardzo długim ogonem, kolorowym upierzeniem oraz dużym, hakowato zakończonym dziobem. Przedstawiciele obu płci wyglądają podobnie. Odżywiają się owocami i orzechami, których skorupę kruszą za pomocą bardzo silnego dzioba, a następnie wydobywają zawartość językiem. Łatwo się oswajają i dobrze współżyją w hodowli z innymi papugami, mogą jednak atakować inne zwierzęta lub obce osoby. Pojedyncze osobniki osiągały w niewoli wiek do 65 lat.
