Monoclonal antibodies (mAb or moAb) are antibodies that are identical because they are produced by one type of immune cell that are all clones of a single parent cell. Given (almost) any substance, it is possible to create monoclonal antibodies that specifically bind to that substance; they can then serve to detect or purify that substance. This has become an important tool in biochemistry, molecular biology and medicine. When used as medications, the generic name ends in -mab (see "Nomenclature of monoclonal antibodies").

Les anticorps monoclonaux sont des anticorps reconnaissant le même épitope car ils sont issus d'une seule lignée de plasmocytes, provenant d'une seule cellule. Ils sont le produit d'une fusion entre un lymphocyte B et une cellule cancéreuse (myélome).

Mab istist eine Gestalt der britischen Volkssage (auch kymrisch "Mabb"). Sie wird mit Albträumen in Verbindung gebracht, war wahrscheinlich ursprünglich jedoch die britannische Entsprechung der irischen Medb oder Maeve.Bei Shakespeare wird sie in Romeo und Julia als "Queen Mab" als eine Feen-Königin erwähnt. der Name eines im Jahr 2003 entdeckten kleinen Uranus-Monds, siehe Mab (Mond).die Abkürzung für monoclonal antibodies = monoklonale Antikörper

Monoklonale Antikörper sind Antikörper, also immunologisch aktive Proteine, die von einer auf einen einzigen B-Lymphozyten zurückgehenden Zelllinie (Zellklon) produziert werden und die sich gegen ein einzelnes Epitop richten. Eine physiologisch vorkommende Immunantwort gegen ein in den Körper eingedrungenes Antigen ist dagegen stets polyklonal und richtet sich z. B. gegen viele verschiedene Teile auf einem Bakterium.

Przeciwciała monoklonalne (mAb –  ang. Monoclonal AntiBodies) - zbiór przeciwciał, które wykazują jednakową swoistość względem danego antygenu i ewentualnie takie samo lub podobne powinowactwo. Nazwa wywodzi się stąd, że wszystkie takie przeciwciała są otrzymywane z jednego klonu limfocytów B. Przeciwieństwem przeciwciał monoklonalnych są przeciwciała poliklonalne, czyli takie, które wiążą różne antygeny i względem tego samego antygenu wykazują różne powinowactwo. Analogicznie: surowica zawierająca przeciwciała monoklonalne to surowica monoklonalna, zaś surowica zawierająca przeciwciała poliklonalne to surowica poliklonalna.
