Metro is an abbreviation of metropolitan, and is the name of many products and services relating to urban areas, especially public transport systems.

Metró was a very famous Hungarian rock band in the 1960s and early 1970s. When the Hungarian government cracked down on rock music that they considered subversive, Metró left the music industry. Band leader Zorán Sztevanovity has pursued an active solo career after his tenure with the band.

The Rome Metro is an underground public transportation system that operates in Rome, Italy and opened in 1955. There are currently two metro lines, the A line (identified by the orange colour) and the B line (blue). A third line, the green C line, and a new branch of the B line, are currently under construction. Plans have also been revealed for a fourth line, to be called the D Line. The current network has an X-shape with the lines intersecting at Termini Station, the main train station in Rome.

The São Paulo Metro (, commonly called Metrô) is the principal rapid-transit system in the city of São Paulo and the largest in Brazil. It is also the second largest system in South America and the third largest in Latin America, behind Mexico City and Santiago.

Die Metropolitana di Roma (kurz Metro) ist die U-Bahn der italienischen Hauptstadt Rom. Sie besteht aus zwei normalspurigen Linien, die sich x-förmig kreuzen. Betrieben wird die Metropolitana di Roma von der Gesellschaft ATAC S.p.A. .

Die Metrô São Paulo ist das U-Bahnnetz der brasilianischen Stadt São Paulo. Es wurde 1974 eröffnet und besteht derzeit aus vier Linien, eine fünfte ist im Bau. Das System hat eine Gesamtlänge von 61,3 km und verfügt über 55 Bahnhöfe.

Le métro de Paris est un des systèmes de transport en commun desservant la ville de Paris (France) et son agglomération. Il comporte 16 lignes en site propre, essentiellement souterraines, totalisant 214 kilomètres de voies. Devenu un des symboles de Paris, il se caractérise par la densité de son réseau au cœur de Paris et par son style architectural homogène influencé par l’Art nouveau. La première ligne du métro de Paris a été construite à l'approche de l’Exposition universelle de 1900. Elle sera inaugurée quelques mois après le début de l'exposition. Le réseau s’est ensuite rapidement densifié dans Paris intra muros jusqu’à la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Après une pause durant les « décennies voitures » (1950-1970), plusieurs lignes existantes ont été prolongées en proche banlieue. Les choix effectués à sa conception (faibles distances entre les stations, capacité réduite des rames) limitent aujourd’hui les possibilités d’extension du réseau. Le métro de Paris a cependant inauguré à la fin du siècle dernier une nouvelle ligne entièrement automatisée, la  ligne 14, destinée notamment à soulager la ligne A du RER.

Le métro de Rome ( « Metropolitana » ) a été ouvert en 1955. Le métro de Rome comprend deux lignes, la ligne A et la ligne B: la ligne B est en cours de prolongement, une troisième ligne (la ligne C, qui sera automatique) est en cours de réalisation et une quatrième ligne (D) est en projet.

Paris tunnelbana (franska: Le chemin de fer métropolitain, Le métro) är ett av Europas största tunnelbanenät. Tunnelbanan började byggas 1900. Den största delen av den senare utvidgningen skedde före andra världskriget.

Roms tunnelbana (Metropolitana di Roma) är ett viktigt spårtransportsystem i Rom, Italien. Dess äldsta sträckning öppnades 1955. Tunnelbanan har två linjer, Linje A och Linje B. Linje C är under byggnad.

Charakteryzuje się wagonami rozwijającymi wysoką prędkość i osiągającymi duże przyspieszenia, jeżdżącymi pojedynczo lub w układach wielowagonowych na oddzielnych torach, korytarzami wydzielonymi od pojazdów innego typu ruchu i od ruchu pieszego, specjalną sygnalizacją, oraz wysokimi peronami. W 15 starych krajach UE istnieje obecnie przeszło 30 systemów metra, a ostatnie inwestycje to systemy w: Tuluzie (1993), Neapolu (1995), Bilbao (1997), Atenach (1998), Katanii (1999), Kopenhadze (październik 2002), Porto (grudzień 2002) i Turynie (2005).

Paryskie metro - pierwsza linia została otwarta w 1900 r. Jego pełna nazwa – Chemin de Fer Métropolitain (pl. Metropolitalna kolej żelazna), w praktyce używa się skrótu Métropolitain lub po prostu Métro. Sieć paryskiego metra ma długość 221,6 km, posiada 380 stacji (87 na których przecinają się linie). W 2004 roku skorzystało z niego 1,336 miliarda pasażerów.
