Lourdes

Lourdes (Occitan name Lorda) is a town and commune situated in the Southwest of the Hautes-Pyrénées department, lying in the first Pyrenean foothills, in southwestern France.It is overlooked from the south by the Pyrenean peaks of Aneto, Montaigu, and Vignemale (3,298m), while around the town there are three summits reaching up to 1,000 m, which are known as the Béout, the Petit Jer and the Grand Jer.Lourdes was originally a small unremarkable market town lying in the foothills of the Pyrenees. At that time the most prominent feature was the fortified castle which rises up from the centre of the town on a rocky escarpment. Following the claims that there were apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858, Lourdes has developed into a major place of Christian pilgrimage (Mainly Catholic).

Lourdes (gaskognisch Lorda) ist einer der weltweit am meisten besuchten römisch-katholischen Wallfahrtsorte. Die Stadt liegt im Département Hautes-Pyrénées im Südwesten Frankreichs in der Nähe der spanischen Grenze. Sie zählt ca. 15.000 Einwohner (Stand 2003).

Lourdes (Lorda, w jęz. okcytańskim) - miasto i gmina w południowo-zachodniej Francji, u podnóża Pirenejów, nad rzeką Gave de Pau, w regionie Midi-Pyrénées, w departamencie Hautes-Pyrénées. Według danych na rok 1990 gminę zamieszkiwało 16 300 osób, a gęstość zaludnienia wynosiła 441 osób/km² (wśród 3020 gmin regionu  Midi-Pyrénées Lourdes plasuje się na 14. miejscu pod względem liczby ludności, natomiast pod względem powierzchni na miejscu 195.).

Lourdes (in lingua occitana Lorda) è un comune francese di 15.203 abitanti situato nel dipartimento degli Alti Pirenei, nella regione del Midi-Pirenei. Attraversato dal fiume Gave de Pau, fa parte del territorio dell'Occitania. In particolare, il comune si trova nell'area linguistica del dialetto guascone, variante dell'occitano.
